This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is one of approximately 10k examples built between May 1953 and August 1955. It is a left-hand-drive North American export model originally delivered in Carmine Red over black upholstery. Power comes from an overbored 2.7-liter inline-four paired with a three-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. According to the selling dealer, the car was refurbished between 1993 and 1994 by Showroom Restorations in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and changed hands several times prior to the current owner’s acquisition in March 2011. A Le Mans kit has been added, including engine upgrades, a modified airbox, a louvered hood, and a leather hood strap. Additional modifications are described as larger SU carburetors, a new clutch and lightened flywheel, a high-performance camshaft, front disc brakes, and more as described below. This 100 BN1 is now offered on dealer consignment with records since 1993, a BMIHT certificate, a soft top, bumpers, two tonneau covers, a spare set of chrome-finished wire wheels, and a clean California title.

This BN1 was repainted black at some point prior to the current owner’s purchase. The Le Mans kit equips a louvered hood with a leather strap. The windshield has been replaced, and 7″ driving lights are mounted as pictured below. Per the selling dealer a soft top, bumpers, a gray fabric tonneau cover, and a red leather tonneau cover accompany the sale.

Knock-off wire wheels have been repainted and mounted with new Blockley “dog bone” tires. A spare set of chrome wire wheels is also included. Front disc brakes are equipped, and the brake master cylinder was recently replaced.

The seats have been reupholstered in black leather with red piping, and replacement Wilton wool carpets are also fitted along with a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel.

US-spec Smiths gauges include a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. According to the selling dealer the current owner reset the five-digit odometer to all zeroes, and it now indicates just over 7k miles. True mileage is unknown.

The factory 2.7-liter inline-four reportedly has been overbored and is fitted with larger-than-stock SU carburetors. Power is sent rearward through a dogleg three-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Le Mans kit improvements include a modified airbox, higher compression, and larger valves and ports. The engine is said to have been balanced under current ownership and the radiator cleaned and repaired. Additional performance items and recent maintenance included installation of the following:

Replacement pistons, rings, and bearings
Westlake aluminum cylinder head
High-performance camshaft
High-torque starter
Electric fan and new alternator
Electronic ignition system
Replacement clutch kit
Lightened flywheel
Replacement fuel tank

Records are said to begin in 1993. Some recent individual invoices are included.

The BMIHT certificate was issued in January 1994 and states that this BN1 was built on January 5, 1954 finished in Carmine Red over black. The original chassis, engine, and body serial numbers are also listed.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
