This 1956 Austin-Healey BN2 Roadster was completed on October 24, 1955 and is one of just 640 factory-built 100M examples produced over a 10-month span. The car was sold new in the US and acquired by a previous owner in California in 1988, after which it spent 15 years in storage. The current owner’s husband purchased the car in 2003 and had it refurbished for her as a 40th birthday gift. Work included a repaint in the factory Healey Blue and reupholstering the blue interior, as well as overhauling the brakes, suspension, and exhaust systems. The numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four is backed by a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and has been fitted with a polished and ported cylinder head from Denis Welch. This 100M is now offered on behalf of the current owner with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, a 100M Registry Certificate of Membership, records from the refurbishment, two Brooklands windscreens, and a clean Florida title.

Factory 100M models can be distinguished by their louvred hoods, as noted on this example’s BMIHT Certificate. The exterior was repainted in its original shade of Healey Blue between 2006 and 2007, and areas of corrosion were also repaired at the rear of the rockers and forward portions of the rear fenders.

New 15” silver painted wire wheels were installed in 2009 during the refurbishment, carried out by Morgan Motors of New England in Copake, New York, and are held in place by two-eared knockoffs. Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are mounted. Additional equipment includes a leather hood strap, bumper-mounted driving lights, a blue soft top, and a matching tonneau cover.

The interior was re-trimmed during the refurbishment, with the seats recovered in blue leather by Heritage Upholstery in Washington. The driveshaft tunnel is trimmed in matching leather, and the cabin also features color-keyed carpets and door panels. The black dash was repainted during the project as well, and the alloy threshold trim was straightened and polished.

The banjo-spoked steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation, including a 140-mph speedometer added during the refurbishment, as well as a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, around 5k of which have been added during current ownership.

The 2,660cc inline-four has been fitted with a Denis Welch ported and polished cylinder head, and the 100M-specific SU HD6 carburetors were rebuilt during the refurbishment in 2009. In addition to the larger carburetors, factory 100M cars came with 8.1:1-compression pistons, a high-lift camshaft, an aluminum intake manifold, and a cold-air box. Pertronix electronic ignition was added during the refurbishment, and the fuel pump was replaced along with the wiring harness, generator, and more as outlined in invoices shown in the gallery below.

Number 1B229089M is shown on the plate affixed to the engine block, matching the number listed on the BMIHT Certificate. Shifting is through a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive on the top two gears.

The brake system was overhauled between 2009 and 2010, with the brake drums refinished and painted to match the wheels. A new brake master cylinder, fluid reservoir, and hoses were installed, along with rebuilt wheel cylinders.

The BMHIT Certificate describes the car as a factory 100M, and a certificate of membership from the 100M Registry.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
