Chassis No. BN6L/4551

While little is known of this fabulous sports car’s earliest years, the previous owner was presented the Healey a number of years ago as a rather generous anniversary present from his wife. During his ownership, a frame-off restoration was entrusted to an Austin-Healey specialist.

While undergoing restoration, the two-seat bodywork was finished in black, a most handsome color for this classic BN6. The seats were reupholstered in a lovely dark red complemented by black piping and the interior was finished with matching carpets and panels. Overall, this Austin-Healey has the purposeful stance associated with these rugged British sports cars and looks stunning sitting atop period-correct painted wire wheels.

It is said that the previous owner was passionate about the 100-Six, maintaining the beloved car as needed and enjoying it on the open road. Throughout his period of ownership, it is reported that the car was never driven in inclement weather, always garage stored and meticulously detailed after every outing. Only after recognizing that his age was limiting his ability to fully enjoy driving the Austin-Healey on a regular basis did he decide it was time to part with his prized possession.

The current owner has since refreshed various aspects of the car as necessary and the total presentation is very impressive. In addition to the striking exterior appearance, the engine bay and trunk compartment are both very clean and tidy, a testament to the consistent cosmetic upkeep and careful use the car has seen since restoration. As would be expected of a lightweight, six-cylinder Healey, the owner reports that the car is a delight to drive.

With their sporting looks and more powerful engine, the rare BN6 two-seat models are among the most sought-after of “Big Healeys,” offering an unforgettable behind-the-wheel experience. Accompanied by an owner’s handbook, jack and a binder of restoration and service receipts, this charming Austin-Healey should make a fine addition to any stable of exciting 1950s sports cars.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
