The 3000 Mark II "Big Healeys" are among the most highly prized. Low slung, long-hooded, wire-wheeled, and narrow tired, these were cars as at home on the twisty English backroads, as they were at Hollywood movie premiers. Wind-in-your-hair driving is just so... British.

Fresh from a comprehensive, professional restoration, offered here is a 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II-the final year of the Mark II BJ7. This is a stellar example of a lovingly resurrected and magnificently restored, numbers-matching (motor, transmission, and chassis) car. The comprehensive restoration work included Heritage trim and carpets. The incredibly detailed work on the car is photo-documented in the accompanying gallery. A British Heritage Trust Certificate, included with the car and shown in the gallery, adds further manufacturer documentation.

The exterior finish on the car's iconic red paint, characteristic horizontal-slat chrome front grille, original engine, and wire wheels (with center knock-off spinners) all reflect the pristine condition of a factory-fresh car, not one with 39,506 miles and nearly 60 years on the road. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The same is true for the brightwork, emblems, headlights and the lights and lenses. The black fabric top is without flaw. In similar fashion, the 2912-cc inline-6-cylinder, and all components surrounding it in the engine bay, are concours-ready showcasing what can only be called a work of automotive art. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete, undamaged, indeed, perfect. The side-routed exhaust system is one visual focal point.

Inside, the Heritage red-leather upholstery evokes thoughts of drives on twisty roads through autumn landscapes. Fresh black carpeting and red-leather door trim (with black piping) is all nicely kept. The full complement of Smiths® gauges, Smiths heater, perfectly pristine switchgear, iconic steering wheel, floor-tunnel-mounted four-speed manual transmission (with overdrive) shifter, wearing its original shift knob, and red-leather-covered dashboard expanse all showcase classic originality. The previously mentioned substantial documentation of the almost incredible restoration, together with original owner's literature, accompanies the car.

This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was built in August 1963 and is said to have remained with its first owner until 1988 after which it was acquired by the current owner in 2016. Refurbishment work completed in 2018 included stripping and repainting the body in red, reupholstering the interior in red leather with black piping, and refreshing mechanical components. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and additional equipment includes a black convertible top, a top boot, chrome bumpers, fender-mounted mirrors, chrome-clad 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, and a Smiths heater. This Healey 3000 is now offered on dealer consignment with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment photos, manufacturer’s literature, and clean Michigan title.

The car was stripped and repainted in the factory shade of Colorado Red by Wicker’s Body Shop of Kendallville, Indiana. A black convertible top and boot are fitted in addition to a hood scoop, chrome bumpers with bumperettes, fender-mounted mirrors, an exposed fuel filler cap, and dual polished exhaust outlets.

Chrome-clad 15″ 60-spoke knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A spare is located in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.

The interior features front bucket seats and contoured rear seats which were reupholstered in red leather with black piping along with a matching dash and door panels. Sound deadening insulation was fitted to the interior along with replacement Heritage carpet, a Smiths heater, the factory shift knob, and a dash-mounted rear view mirror.

A wood-rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with twin SU carburetors and was stripped and repainted during the refurbishment, at which time a stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted. A fuel line was repaired in preparation for the sale.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory colors and equipment as well as a build completion date of August 6, 1963.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
