This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is finished in green over black and was acquired by the seller in 2015 from the previous owner of 35 years. Power is provided by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a Toyota five-speed manual gearbox. Additional modifications include PerTronix electronic ignition, an aluminum fuel tank, and other updates to the cooling and electrical systems. Approximately 10k miles are said to have been added by the seller, and an oil change was performed six months ago. This BJ8 is now offered by the seller with a clean North Carolina title.

The body received a driver-quality repaint in green during prior ownership, and a photo of the black soft top is provided in the gallery below. The car is equipped with vent windows, polished side mirrors, and a dual-exit exhaust outlet. Chrome 15″ wire wheels are mounted with two-ear knockoff spinners and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The seller states that the brakes should be serviced.

The 2+2 interior is trimmed in black upholstery and features roll-up side windows and burl wood dash veneers. Hushmat insulation has been added to the floors, transmission tunnel, and doors. The heater blower motor is inoperable per the seller. Factory Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 90k miles, around 10k of which were reportedly added by the seller.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox that was reportedly sourced from a Toyota MK 2 Supra. Further modifications are said to include installation of a gear reduction starter, a negative-ground electrical conversion with an alternator, a Wizard Cooling aluminum radiator with a five-blade cooling fan, a spin-on oil filter, and an aluminum fuel tank. The rear exhaust resonator has been removed, and the seller notes intermittent starter issues. Corrosion is present in areas of the underside.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
