This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is finished in British Racing Green over a black Ambla interior and shows just under 91k miles. The car was reportedly purchased by the seller three years ago from its second owner in California, and approximately 400 miles have been added since. Its 2.9-liter inline-six is backed by a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. A engine rebuild was performed in 2018, and other work under the seller’s ownership has included replacement of the stainless-steel exhaust system, a new soft top, brake and cooling system services, and more. This BJ8 is now offered with recent service records, a driver’s handbook, a copper knock-off hammer, and clean Alabama registration in the seller’s name.
Sheet metal is finished in British Racing Green, and the seller reports that an acrylic coating was recently applied to the exterior. A pair of yellow driving lamps is fitted to the front bumper along with two grille badges. The headlights wear mesh stone guards, and new side mirrors are said to have been recently fitted. The seller notes that the trunk lid does not color-match the rest of the car and it is believed to have been refinished or replaced under previous ownership.
Factory 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear Michelin ZX tires in size 175SR15. A new black soft top was installed in 2018 along with new door seals and a new stainless-steel exhaust system. Brake service last year included new front pads and rotors, a new master cylinder, new boosters, cleaning of the rear wheel hubs, and a chassis lubrication.
The cockpit is trimmed in Ambla black upholstery with chrome piping on the front and rear seats. Interior features include a factory Bakelite steering wheel, a wooden shift knob, Austin-Healey floor mats, roll-up windows, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.
A burl wood dashboard houses Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer showing a 5,500-rpm redline, a fuel gauge, and a water-temperature gauge. A VDO volt meter and clock are mounted in the center console but are not wired to any power source. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows just under 91k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added by the seller over the past three years.
The 2.9L C-series inline-six was factory rated to produce 150 horsepower and 158 lb-ft of torque when new and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive. An engine rebuild was performed by JD’s British Cars of Nashville, Tennessee in 2018, as summarized on invoices presented in the photo gallery. Mechanical service following the engine work included new radiator hoses, a new radiator fan, resurfacing of the flywheel, a new clutch and clutch slave cylinder, a refurbished starter and generator, tuning of the SU carburetors, and new air filters. A spin-on oil-filter adapter has been installed, and an oil change reportedly was performed about 100 miles ago, at which time a new fuel filter was fitted. The seller notes an area of rust on the driver-side firewall underneath the master cylinders.
A full-size spare wire wheel is stowed in the trunk along with a new battery. A replacement battery tray was installed under current ownership. Service records from the seller’s ownership are included in the sale.
