You had to have seen Timo Makinen drive the Works cars in anger - on ice - on gravel, in Wales (RAC Rally, '64/'65).

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was reportedly purchased new by an American student in England as a “personal export” car, and was subsequently shipped to California. The car was then acquired by a friend of the original owner in Connecticut in 1995, and came to the seller in 1999. The car is in non-running condition and is equipped with a 2.9-liter inline-six paired to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller had the body and paintwork addressed by a local custom car shop, and has also serviced the carburetors, partially replaced the wiring harness, fitted a stainless steel exhaust system, and more, as detailed below. This Austin-Healey is offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, boxes of removed and replacement parts, a set of supplemental literature, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The seller sent the car to a local custom-car shop for bodywork and a repaint in British Racing Green, and subsequently fitted the exterior trim and re-chromed grille, and had a new convertible top professionally fitted. A set of Lucas 7″ auxiliary lamps are fitted to the front bumper, including an SLR700 Flame Thrower driving lamp and CFT700 fog lamp.

Yellow-outlined British plates reportedly indicate the car’s original export status. The silver-painted wire wheels were fitted with new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in 2009. The seller reports that the front brakes and shocks were found to be ineffective.

The interior has been partially stripped, and a square pattern is present in the rear seat and side panel upholstery. The included center tunnel cover, front seats, and other interior components are pictured in the gallery. The seller notes that the hood latch, doors, and window mechanisms will require attention. 42k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer.

The trunk area has been refreshed with a new liner, and per the seller the fuel tank was reconditioned prior to re-installation.

The 2.9-liter inline-six carries number 29K-RU-H/14861, which corresponds to the number shown on the included British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. The engine last ran in 2000, and has periodically been turned over by hand since. Since that time the seller has sourced a replacement exhaust header, fitted a new stainless steel exhaust system, replaced the fuel pump, re-welded the emergency brake chassis bracket, and more.

The twin 2″ SU HD8 carburetors have been serviced, and the corresponding manifold is pictured in the gallery. The reconditioned radiator has been fitted with an electric fan, and the positive-ground generator is included. A new wiring loom has been partially fitted, though its installation will need to be completed. A custom switch panel for the auxiliary lights is included for fitment in the glovebox.

The car is equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive, though the overdrive was reportedly not functional when the car was last driven. The seller also reports that the brake and clutch master and slave cylinders should be replaced, as should the fuel lines.

A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the original colors, equipment, production date, delivery date, and more.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
