This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased new in March 1968 by its current owner in Florida and underwent a restoration in 2008 by vendors in Harbor City and Pasadena, California. The work included new paint and upholstery in original black and red as well as a rebuild of its replacement 2.9-liter inline-six, resealing the transmission and differential, a brake overhaul, and more. A four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, a heater, an adjustable steering column, and wire wheels were equipped from the factory. Recent service following two years of inactivity is said to have included replacement of the clutch slave cylinder and brake light switch as well as bleeding of the brakes. This BJ8 is offered by the seller on behalf of its original owner with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, records, refurbishment photos, an original sales slip, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The exterior was repainted in its original black following disassembly, metal fabrication, and other rust repair as part of the 2008 work, with photos taken during the process. The seller notes cracking in the chrome on the rear bumper.

Wire wheels were among the factory options listed on the BMIHT certificate. A brake overhaul performed during the 2008 work included rebuilds of the calipers, master cylinder, and booster, while the brake light switch was replaced and the was system bled as part of the recent maintenance.

The interior includes rear seats and has been reupholstered in its original red. The dash features burl walnut trim, while amenities include a wood-rimmed steering wheel mounted on an adjustable column, a darker wood shift knob, a factory heater, and a retro-style radio with USB and auxiliary inputs.

Smiths instruments are said to have been restored and include a five-digit odometer showing approximately 500 miles, which represents the total since completion of the 2008 work. Switches controlling the auxiliary cooling fan and overdrive are located inside.

The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six was hot-tanked and rebuilt in 2008 with a polished crankshaft and sleeved cylinders as well as new main and connecting rod bearings, piston rings, gaskets, timing and ignition components, and more. Induction is from twin SU carburetors, while a stainless steel dual exhaust system has been fitted from the header back. The cooling system features both mechanical and electric fans.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox which was resealed and fitted with a new clutch during the initial refurbishment. The differential was resealed during the 2008 work, while the clutch slave cylinder was replaced in preparation for the sale.

Additional photos of the car before and during the 2008 work are provided. The chassis was epoxy coated and sealed at the time according to included records.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a February 1967 build date and dispatch to the US in August of that year, also listing the original colors, equipment, and numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
