This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is a left-hand-drive example that was built in February 1967 and reportedly was purchased new by the current owner’s late mother, a US Army nurse who was stationed in Germany. Finished in Healey Blue over a blue interior, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is said to have been stored from 1983 until 2007, and subsequent recommissioning included engine work and interior repairs. More recent maintenance included installing a new fuel pump and lines, cleaning the fuel tank, and performing a tuneup. This BJ8 is now offered on behalf of the current owner with service records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean California title.

The body is finished in Healey Blue, and photos showing the car under different colored lighting are provided in the gallery below. Equipment includes fender-mounted mirrors, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a black boot cover.

15” wire wheels with octagonal securing nuts are wrapped in Signet SB-802 tires. The soft top has reportedly been repaired, although it is not pictured.

Blue seats are joined by matching carpets and door panels. Burl wood trim accents the dashboard, and an aftermarket head unit and lap belts have been added.

A banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column. Smiths gauges include a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a five-digit odometer that shows just over 10k miles.

The 2.9L inline-six features dual SU carburetors and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The radiator was recently cleaned, and an electric fan was added. A new battery, fuel pump, and fuel lines were installed earlier this year. The fuel tank was cleaned and re-coated, and a tuneup was also performed with new spark plugs, points, distributor cap, and rotor.

Stamping #29K-RU-H/15290 matches the BMIHT certificate pictured below, confirming the engine as original.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a manufacture date in February 1967 and lists the original colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers as well as initial delivery to a dealership in Germany.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
