Auction description:
AUCTION DATE: Friday, Feb 18, 2011
LOT NUMBER: 14
CHASSIS NO: HBJ8L40934
A Rare and Desirable BJ8 Example, Restored to Very High Standards
Engine 2912cc Straight 6 cylinder, cast iron block and head , single overhead camshaft, Twin 2 inch HD8 SU Carburetors, 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive, independent front suspension, coil spring, live rear axle, half elliptic springs, Servo assisted front disc and rear drum brakes,
This1966 model is equipped with the 2912cc straight six-cylinder engine. Improvements over previous iterations included a revised camshaft, new valve springs, improved exhaust and twin SU 2" HD8 carburetors. The Bj8 is the most powerful of the road going Healeys with an output of 150hp. Power reaches the rear-wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive allowing a top speed of 120mph. Front disc brakes and revised suspension round out a package that is thoroughly usable, even on modern roads. This example is in flawless mechanical condition and ready to drive anywhere.
This car, HBJ8L40934, was recently subject to a professional, ground-up restoration costing upward of $65,000 and it shows. Finished in black with a black convertible top, the Healey is imbued with a subtle elegance and distinctly British character. Chrome accents show beautifully against the deep black bodywork. Wire wheels, driving lights and fender mirrors are just a few of many wonderful period accents.
These cars were well known for remarkable fit and finish when new, resulting in a comfortable touring experience with the top fixed or stowed. This example maintains that standard with a beautifully restored interior. Seating surfaces are covered in soft red leather with matching red carpeting. The highlight of this exceptionally well-appointed cabin is the walnut-veneer dashboard, which is unique to BJ8 models such as this.
All restoration work was completed 2 years ago by Vantage Sports cars of Orlando, Florida.
This example was beautifully restored and lovingly cared for. It is without doubt equally ready to be tested on a long tour or on the show-field.
