This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased by the seller in 1996, and it has been refinished in a two-tone red and white over a red leather interior. Power is provided by an overbored 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and other features include chrome wire wheels, a red soft top and boot cover, a luggage rack, and Lucas driving lamps. This BJ8 is now offered in Florida with an Austin-Healey Concours Registry silver-level certification, a red tonneau cover, and a clean Kentucky title in the seller’s name.
According to the seller, the body was disassembled and subsequently repainted in a two-tone Old English White and red finish during the refurbishment carried out in 1998. Additional exterior features include a red boot cover and a matching soft top that can be seen raised in the photo gallery below along with chrome bumpers with overriders, a front badge bar with Lucas driving lamps, and a chrome luggage rack fitted to the trunk lid. A matching red tonneau cover is included in the sale.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs are wrapped in 185/70 Vredestein tires. Power-assisted disc brakes are fitted up front, with drums at the rear.
The 2+2 interior is said to have been refreshed in early 2021 in red leather with matching door cards and carpeting. Amenities include black floor mats, front lap belts, and wooden dash panels.
A banjo-style steering wheel fronts instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays just under 81k miles, approximately 14k of which have been added by the seller.
The 2.9-liter 29K inline-six is equipped with dual SU HD8 carburetors and a higher lift camshaft than the previous C-series engine used in the BJ7 Mk II, producing 150 horsepower when new. The seller reports that the engine was bored .010″ over during the 1998 refurbishment, and the oil and filter were changed in December 2020. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
