Car to be at auction 5/12
www.worldwide-auctioneers.com/auctions/details.cfm

Auction description:
1960 Austin Healey MK I BN7
2012 The Houston Classic Auction

Offered Without Reserve
ESTIMATE: $60,000 - $ 70,000
CHASSIS NO: HBN7L409
Desirable Overdrive Transmission Wonderfully Restored & Road Ready

2912cc Straight Six, single overhead camshaft, twin, SU carburetors, 130 bhp at 4,750 rpm, four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, independent front suspension, coil spring, live rear axle, semi elliptic springs

This particular Austin-Healey 3000 MKI is a desirable early car and one of just 2,284 two-place BN7s ever built. It has been treated to a "no expense spared" nut and bolt restoration within the last decade and it has been driven only sparingly since. During the course of its restoration, it was refinished in vibrant orange with cream-colored accents. While not an understated choice of coloration, it is quite charming and fits the character of this sporty Healey very nicely. All paint was expertly applied and shows very well, and the tasteful chrome trim is similarly well turned-out. Wire wheels complete a sharp exterior aesthetic that leaves nothing to be desired. The fully restored interior is quite beautiful in black with white piping on the seats. The white gauge faces, and a few shiny bits do an excellent job of trimming out the interior. The almost brash exterior is well balanced by the appropriately conservative interior and the overall effect is easy to love.

This 3000 has benefited from a new top, tonneau cover, and side curtains. Overall fit and finish is excellent with door gaps and panel fit significantly improved over factory condition. This Healey has also been treated to a thorough mechanical reconditioning with the engine having covered a mere 5,000 miles since being fully rebuilt as part of its restoration. It runs strong and the four-speed manual transmission with overdrive is said to perform very nicely.

The Austin-Healey 3000 MKI on offer here is a lovely example of the legendary model as well as an apt embodiment of everything enthusiasts love about the classic British sports car. A rare two-seat BN7 in an appealing and exciting color, it has been carefully restored and very well maintained. It is mechanically excellent and without question ready to be enjoyed on a weekend road trip or on just a few quick blasts on your favorite back road.

For sale on e-bay by St. Louis Car Museum & Sales: cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Austin-Healey-3000-BN7-Roadster-Roadster-2-door-

This gorgeous 1960 Austin Healey 3000 BN7 Mark I roadster was treated to a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration! Finished in Sunset Orange with Pale Ivory coves and black interior with white piping, this eye-catching example comes loaded with factory options! Powered by a 2912cc Inline 6 cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission with fully functional overdrive delivers a stout, factory rated 124 horsepower through twin SU HS6 carburetion! Additional factory options include Smiths heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, "roadspeed tyres", and brand new 60-spoke chrome wire wheels fitted with Vredstein radials!
This car represents only 2,825 2-seater roadsters built between March of 1959 through March of 1961 making them incredibly rare, and even harder to find already restored to this caliber! This particular car has just 2,709 miles on a fresh drive train since a complete restoration by Imagination Engineering, Inc. based out of Orlando, FL! It was treated to a meticulous restoration that continues to show today in a highly detailed presentation. The entire body was completely stripped with running gear completely removed, and all panels & chassis fully media blasted. All metalwork was professionally prepped and received all new paint. All rubber, weather stripping, wiring, suspension, wheels & tires, Falcon stainless steel exhaust, and brake components are brand new or completely refurbished! It was completed in early 2003 for the former owner of 20 years! He continued to enjoy the car for another 7 years before selling it in 2010 for total ownership of 27 years. Most of the chrome and bright work is new with exception to just a few small items. All of which still look excellent today!

It will come complete with its British Heritage Certificate, cabin tonneau cover, brand new soft top and side curtains; complete jack, tool, & matching spare tire! It starts with perfect ease, idles out nicely with a perfect exhaust note, and runs down the road superbly! The overdrive works instantly with a flick of the switch!

Sold at Mecum Kissimmee Auction 2011. January 26-30.
Lot # F130 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BN7 Roadster; S/N HBN7L409; Orange, Beige/Black leatherette, White piping; Older restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $39,000 plus commission of 6.00%; Final Price $41,340 -- New chrome wire wheels but feathered tread elements on the Vredestein tires indicate alignment issues. Good paint, chrome and interior. Underbody shows use and age. An attractive driver in unusual colors that will always attract notice. A good value in a reassuringly well maintained 2-seat Big Healey roadster. The feathered tires are a bit worrisome, and may reveal some bushing issues that will need to be fixed, but that is affordable at this price. A good value.

This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 is a left-hand-drive Mk I BN7 two-seater model which was acquired by its current owner from the St. Louis Car Museum in 2012 following a 2001-2005 refurbishment by Imagination Engineering, Inc. of Orlando, Florida. Power is from a numbers-matching 2,912cc inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and the car has been refinished in red and beige over a black leather interior with white piping. Work in preparation for the sale included a tune-up and fluid changes as well as replacement of the starter solenoid and clutch slave cylinder. This BN7 is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with service records, a painted spare wire wheel, a knock-off hammer, a British Motor Heritage Industry Trust certificate, and a clean California title.

The body was stripped and sheet metal was replaced in the floors, doglegs, rockers, fenders, and other areas by Imagination Engineering. The car was then refinished in red with beige coves in lieu of its original black. Brightwork includes front and rear bumper overriders, while exterior mirrors are not fitted. The exterior trim was detailed in the summer of 2019, and photos documenting the condition of the paint and brightwork are shown in the gallery below. Chips on the front end are shown along with scratches on the trim, and the selling dealer notes that the hood sits slightly high at the front.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear Vredestein Sprint S80 tires, and the car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes. The sale includes a silver-painted spare wire wheel as well as a rubber knock-off mallet. The replacement black soft top is shown mounted in the gallery, and aluminum-framed sliding side windows are included along with the tonneau cover pictured above.

The black interior features leather-upholstered front bucket seats with white piping that were conditioned in the summer of 2019. Matching carpets include a rubber pad with an Austin logo under the pedals, which are missing an accelerator pad. Reinforced steel seat tracks are reportedly affixed with factory-style nuts.

A banjo steering wheel rests in front of a black vinyl dash housing controls for the optional heater, which was serviced during the refurbishment. Smiths instrumentation includes a five-digit odometer that is believed to have been reset on completion of the work and now reads just over 3k miles. Actual mileage is unknown.

The 2,912cc C-Series inline-six features dual SU carburetors with pancake filters, and the wiring harness was replaced during the 2001-2005 work. A June 2019 service by Troy Stevens in Fairfield, California included fluid changes, valve lash adjustment, a tune-up, and chassis lubrication as well as replacement of the fan belt, crankcase vent hose, spark plugs, and starter solenoid.

The engine wears a riveted tag stamped 29DRUH373, which matches the number listed on the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.

A four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive routes power to the rear wheels, and the clutch and slave cylinder were replaced during the refurbishment. The chassis was sandblasted, and refinished with PD40 primer and red paint by Imagination Engineering. A stainless steel exhaust system from Victoria British Ltd. was installed in 2012.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates a build date between March 20-23, 1959 for the North American market as well as listing original colors and options.
