This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk2 is a four-seat roadster that was built in December 1961 and dispatched to the US in January 1962. The car underwent a restoration in the early 1990s following a period of storage and was acquired approximately three years ago by the seller. Finished in white and black over a black interior, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional features include a black hardtop, a stainless-steel exhaust system, PerTronix electronic ignition, an oil cooler, CD stereo, power-assisted front disc brakes, and more. This Austin-Healey 3000 is now being offered with service records beginning in 1991, a vinyl luggage bag, a rear luggage rack, a car cover, owner’s and shop manuals, spare parts, a BMIHT certificate, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Factory-finished in black and red, the car was refinished in white with a black lower section during the refurbishment in the early 1990s. Brightwork includes fender beading, hood scoop trim, and front and rear bumpers with overriders. A black hardtop and matching vinyl tonneau cover will accompany the vehicle, along with a rear luggage rack. The seller notes a paint crack on the hood, along with various scratches, chips, and blemishes around the vehicle. The power antenna is inoperable, and the included black soft top reportedly contains several holes and does not fit properly.

The 15” stainless steel 72-spoke wire wheels are equipped with knock-off hubs and are wrapped in Vredestein Comtrac tires sized 195/70. The brake system features power-assisted front discs and rear drums that were reportedly overhauled with replacement axle seals in 2016. A broken spoke on the driver-side front wheel is noted by the seller.

The 2+2 cockpit features black leather seats with white piping and matching black carpets. Amenities include a CD stereo, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, passenger-side grab handle, and retractable three-point front seat belts. A tear on the shift boot is noted by the seller, who also states that the vent on the passenger-side of the dash is not secured.

A banjo-style steering wheel frames instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The seller states that the coolant temperature gauge is inaccurate. The five-digit odometer was reportedly reset to zero during the refurbishment and now shows just over 65k miles, approximately 700 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown, and the seller reports that the coolant temperature gauge reads ten degrees too hot.

A full-size spare and battery are found in the trunk. Corrosion on the trunk lid, support bracket, and handle screws is noted, and a spare trunk liner and hinges will accompany the vehicle.

The 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt during the aforementioned restoration and features triple SU carburetors and a polished valve cover with Austin-Healey script. PerTronix electronic ignition was installed in 2020, and additional features are said to include an oil cooler, a spin-on oil filter conversion, hardened valve seats, and a Texas Kooler six-blade radiator fan and shroud. The seller reports that the radiator and carburetors were rebuilt in 2015, and a replacement battery was installed in 2017. Two fuel pumps, a set of spark plugs, and assorted carburetor and ignition parts are included in the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that features overdrive on third and fourth gears and was rebuilt approximately 30 years ago. A stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted, and the seller notes that the driver must double-clutch to downshift into second gear. Corrosion is reported on the rear leaf springs and front torsion bar threads.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the original colors, serial numbers, and fitted equipment. A binder of photos from the refurbishment will accompany the vehicle.
