This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 MkII is a 2+2 convertible that was completed in September 1961 and acquired by the seller in 2019 from the previous owner of approximately 15 years. Finished in white with a black soft top over a matching vinyl interior, the car is powered by a 302ci Ford V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include knock-off wire wheels, a bullet-style driver’s side-view mirror, and chrome bumpers and trim. Work in 2020 has reportedly consisted of a fuel tank cleaning, fluid changes, and the installation of replacement spark plugs and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. This Austin-Healey is now being offered with an owner’s manual, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name.

The car was factory-finished in Ivory White and was repainted some time during prior ownership. Features include a black soft top with a matching tonneau cover as well as chrome bumpers, trim, and a bullet-style driver’s side-view mirror. The bumper has a dent, the seller notes that the side curtains are missing.

The silver-painted wire wheels feature knockoff hubs with polished spinners, and a full-size spare is found in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by front discs with rear drums, and the car rides on front coil springs with leaf springs out back.

The 2+2 interior features seats trimmed in black vinyl with white piping and a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Additional equipment includes a heater and a dash-mounted rear-view mirror.

A three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel with a lace-up leather covering frames Smiths instrumentation that is said to be inoperable. Auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature and amperage are mounted beneath the dash. Over 600 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, though total mileage is unknown.

The 302ci Ford V8 was installed some time during prior ownership and features a Holley four-barrel carburetor along with Ford Racing-branded valve covers. The seller reports that the fuel tank was removed and boiled around a year ago, and additional work included fluid changes, replacement spark plugs, and the installation of an aluminum radiator with an electric fan.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ford three-speed automatic transmission. Areas of corrosion and missing paint are visible underneath, and additional images are viewable below.

The BMIHT certificate shows a completion date of September 7, 1961 and lists the factory colors, equipment, and serial numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
