This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 is a four-place BT7 Mk II roadster that is said to have resided in California prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2013, reportedly from a friend who had kept it since 1996. The car wears an older repaint in blue over a cockpit trimmed in dark blue vinyl. Power is from a triple-carbureted 2.9-liter inline-six backed by a four-speed manual gearbox and a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Other equipment includes a Smiths heater and painted knock-off wire wheels. This Big Healey is offered with hard and soft tops, side curtains, an owner’s manual, a spare wheel, tools, and a clean Arizona title in the sellers’ names.
The current blue paint is said to be a color change applied under original ownership. Details include a flat windscreen, chrome bumpers with overriders, and Mk II trim. The fiberglass removable hardtop is painted to match the body and houses a hazed plexiglass backlight. Bubbles and other finish imperfections are shown in the gallery below, which also contains photos of the included side curtains. The dark blue soft top and its headliner are said to be in need of replacement.
Painted 15″ wire wheels are mounted using chrome knock-off spinners and wear older Remington Himax radial tires that should be changed according to the seller. Braking is via discs with Girling calipers up front and drums in the rear.
The four-place cockpit is trimmed in dark blue vinyl with white piping over low-backed bucket seats. Tears are visible at the edges of the backrests, and the carpets are discolored under the black vinyl floor mats. The trunk houses the battery and a spare wire wheel secured with a leather hold-down strap.
The vinyl-clad dash houses Smiths heater controls and gauges, including a five-digit odometer that shows 38k miles. Under 1,000 miles have been driven under current ownership, and the actual total is unknown. The banjo-spoke steering wheel features hub-mounted trafficator switch, while the electrically-actuated overdrive can be engaged in third or fourth gears using a toggle switch on the instrument panel.
The 2.9-liter C-series inline-six was equipped with triple SU carburetors in early-production Mk II cars, and maximum output was quoted at 138 horsepower with 167 lb-ft of torque. The four-speed manual gearbox is equipped with syncros on the top three gears, and joins with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. The seller states that fluids were changed in August 2020. Pictures of the underbody are included in the gallery below.
Tools include a jack, two rubber mallets, and a collection of period British AF wrenches.
