This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is a four-seat roadster that was originally delivered to Seattle, Washington and was reportedly acquired as a project by the seller in 2013 following approximately 12 years of storage with its longterm previous owner. Refurbishment carried out by the seller over the past six years has reportedly included a repaint in Glacier White with red coves, reupholstery of the interior in red vinyl, an overhaul of the brakes and suspension, and additional mechanical recommissioning as outlined below. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This BT7 is now offered with a black soft top, a red tonneau cover, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Ivory White, the body was repainted its current shade of Glacier White with red coves following repairs of the front frame extensions as well as replacement of the rocker panels, floor pans, and trunk pan. The bumpers, door handles, fuel filler cap, and headlight trim are also said to have been replaced at this time, and a replacement windshield was fitted with new seals. Blemishes including paint chips and cracking on the driver-side fender and quarter panel.
Replacement polished 15″ wire wheels with knock-off spinners wear Nankang tires. The seller states that the front brake calipers were rebuilt and the brake master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, and rear shocks were replaced during the refurbishment. The black soft top and removable side curtains and the factory painted wheels are included in the sale.
The cabin has been reupholstered in red vinyl with black piping, and replacement black carpets have been installed over Dynamat sound damping. The color-matched dashboard houses ventilation and lighting controls.
A banjo-style steering wheel fronts replacement Smiths gauges including a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, approximately 250 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory-rated at 131 horsepower. Modifications include a Texas Kooler radiator fan with a metal fan shroud, heat-wrapped exhaust piping, and a spin-on oil filter kit. Additional work performed by the seller included rebuilding the carburetors, overhauling the ignition system, and replacing the fuel tank and condenser.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive. The u-joints, overdrive solenoids, and overdrive lockout switch were reportedly replaced by the seller, who notes a leak from the transmission along with grinding when downshifting to second and third gear during higher engine speeds. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery below.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was dispatched to Seattle, Washington on February 18, 1962 and lists factory colors, serial numbers, and equipment.
