This 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 four-seater was acquired by the seller’s father from Los Gatos Ferrari in 1982, and is said to have undergone a subsequent refurbishment in red and white over a red vinyl interior. Power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a Toyota four-speed manual transmission, and features include a roll bar, chrome knock-off wire wheels, a Mota-Lita steering wheel, and a factory hardtop which is missing its rear window. Service in 2019 reportedly involved replacement of the starter, water pump, and thermostat. This BT7 is offered with a soft top and frame, side curtains, a tonneau cover, a BMIHT certificate, and a California title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in white with red coves, and shows evidence of bodywork on the hood and right rear quarter panel according to the seller. Buffing marks are also noted along with a chip on the lower part of the passenger door.

Exterior equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, bullet fender mirrors, a body-colored roll bar, and chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wearing General Altimax RT tires manufactured in 2006.

The interior features seating for four and is trimmed in red vinyl with matching carpets as well as a white dash and piping. A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel has been fitted.

Smiths instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just under 80k miles, 40k of which were added by the seller. Actual mileage is unknown.

The 2,912cc C-series inline-six sends power to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transmission which was reportedly sourced from a Toyota. The water pump, thermostat, and starter were replaced in 2019.

The BMIHT certificate was issued to the seller in January 2020 and shows factory colors, numbers, and options as well as a July 1959 build date.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
