This Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I is a left-hand drive export model which was built in April 1960 and has reportedly been in the seller’s family since 1961. Refurbishment work carried out from 1983 to 2000 is said to have included rebuilds of its 2,912cc inline-six and 4-speed manual gearbox, a repaint in factory Colorado Red, installation of a tan top and leather upholstery, replacement of braking and suspension components, and more. This BT7 is offered with a jack and tools, tonneau and top covers, side curtains, spares, literature, refurbishment records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

Body and frame work was carried out in 1999 by Tom Kovacs of Fourintune in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, including installation of modified inner and outer sills, strengthening of the frame, a repaint in Colorado Red. The soft top was changed from factory black to tan, and is photographed both raised and lowered. Side curtains are included in the sale, as are tonneau and top covers.

Chrome Dayton 72-spoke wire wheels wear 15″ Vredestein Sprint Classic tires sized 185/80. New front brake discs, drums, and hoses were fitted in the 1983 to 2000 restoration, while the clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinder were both replaced with new parts and bled in 2018. Suspension and steering work included installation of new kingpins, rear leaf springs, and more.

Originally red, the seats were reupholstered in tan leather with matching vinyl trim. New wool carpet and door panels were installed as well as a Moto-Lita steering wheel with slotted spokes and a wood rim. Smiths instrumentation includes a tachometer, used replacement MPH speedometer in place of the factory KPH gauge, and a 5-digit odometer which shows 39k miles, with the current owner noting approximately 27k since the restoration. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2,912cc C-Series inline-six was reportedly rebuilt and fitted with a new clutch assembly in 2000 as detailed in the notes below. A Don Hart high-efficiency radiator was recently installed along with a new Holley fuel pump, fresh spark plugs, and a Moss Motors polished stainless steel exhaust system in February 2019.

Power is sent rearward through a 4-speed manual gearbox with an electrically-actuated overdrive, both of which were also overhauled in the 1983 to 2000 restoration along with the rear differential.

Photos from the 17-year refurbishment process are also included. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the original build date, colors, and factory equipment.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
