Auction description:
Date Manufactured: 1953
Registration Number: OAC 381
Chassis Number: BN1145421
History:
This car, OAC 381 was registered on 28th October 1953, and the number is from a series of cars registered ?OAC? by Donald Healey for works cars. She came into the present ownership in 1997 after a ?bare metal? respray, and has since been treated to a systematic programme of improvement to make her reliable for continental rallying at which she has excelled. The engine was rebuilt at a cost of ?3,000 by Motortech Engineering of London. The work included new Australian pistons, and an aluminium six-port cylinder head for leadfree motoring. There is also a four branch manifold and nitrided crankshaft and sensible fitments of a modern alternator and high-speed lightweight starter motor. The originals are available and will be included in the sale. A spin-off oil filter was fitted along with K&N washable air filters to the SU carburettors. The car is running on 15-inch spoke wire wheels, with KUMHO tyres, and an expensive Optima Gel battery installed. The exhaust exits under the door, and a cast-aluminium sump also aids ground clearance, never a strong point with these cars. Finally a four speed BN2 gearbox with overdrive, replaced the former three-speed unit, and the car was fitted with new wheel cylinders, shock absorbers and the brakes and clutch were relined. The car is finished in Oxford Blue over Old English white and has complete weather equipment of hood, tonneau cover and sidescreens, with superb blue sports bucket seats in Napper leather. A louvred 100M type bonnet completes the sporting equipment. OAC 381 is one of the earliest BN1 series of 100/4 Healeys and in its present, enthusiastic ownership has taken part in many continental rallies, including the 2002 Li?ge Rome Li?ge rally and 1000 Bournes Rally in South East France where it finished 3rd overall. The car is offered with a new MOT certificate, and has benefitted from considerable and expensive modification to give a very strong and reliable motor car, which is also extremely pretty, and these days quite a rarity.
Guide price ?14,000
