This 1954 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster underwent a refurbishment from 1993 to 1994 that included combining the chassis and body with the engine and other parts from a 1956 BN2 roadster. The owner who completed the project passed away in 2004, leaving the car to a friend who kept it in storage until 2018, when the seller purchased and recommissioned it. Power is provided by a 2,660cc inline-four mated to a BN1 3-speed manual gearbox, and 100M carburetors have been added along with an M-style louvered hood. Work following the seller’s purchase included a gas tank flush, a new battery, and new tires, as well as replacing the carburetor floats, brake master cylinder, front wheel bearings, and rear wheel cylinders. This car is titled as a 1956 model due to the later engine. The sale includes receipts from the last year, service manuals, a collection of books and memorabilia, a tool kit, spare parts, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The exterior is finished in Old English White over dark red and features a 100M louvered hood. The seller notes deterioration of the paint in areas, as well as chipping at the top of the windscreen frame.

Two new 15” wire wheels from Moss Motors were installed following the seller’s purchase, and new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires were mounted all around. New front wheel bearings and seals were also installed, as were new rear wheel cylinders and a brake master cylinder. The black soft top and tonneau cover are each shown fitted and the windscreen can be seen in both the up and race positions.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets, and SFI seat belts have been added to the bucket seats. A leather-wrapped 3-spoke banjo steering wheel sits ahead of the white dash, and instruments include a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer.

The 5-digit odometer shows just over 76k miles, with total mileage unknown. The previous title listed 75,854 miles in 2004, and the car was believed to be kept in storage for at least 12 years before the seller’s purchase. The seller has added 115 miles during a year of ownership.

The 2,660cc inline-four was reportedly installed during the 1993-1994 refurbishment and features twin SU H6 carburetors. The fuel tank was removed and flushed following the seller’s purchase, and both carburetor floats were also replaced. Shifting is through a 3-speed manual gearbox from a BN1, with the reversed shift pattern characteristic of early 100 models. The seller notes leakage from the engine and transmission, as well as the water pump.

Chassis number 152450 and body number 4616-2101, which match those provided on the British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. However, the car was titled using the BN2 engine serial number after the refurbishment in the 1990s.

Included with the sale is a collection of service manuals, books, and memorabilia pertaining the 100 and other Big Healey models. Also included are two sets of side screens with storage bags, a tool roll, a carburetor tuning kit, a jack, a selection of spare parts, and a car cover. A handful of photos from the refurbishment are also present.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
