This 1954 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster was purchased by an American MAAG adviser directly from the Donald Healey Motor Company on August 27, 1954, and was fitted with a Le Mans modification kit at Healey’s Cape Warwick facility a year later. The car was then imported to the US and remained with its original owner until being acquired by the seller 15 years ago as a non-running project with a rebuilt 2,660cc inline-four. Subsequent work performed to finish the refurbishment included a repaint in red, re-chroming several pieces of brightwork, and more. The car is equipped with a three-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, dual SU carburetors with a cold air box, a louvered hood with a leather strap, chrome knock-off wire wheels, and more. This BN1 is offered with original registration paperwork, DHMC invoices, club documentation, a tool roll and jack, and transferable Connecticut registration in the seller’s name.
According to accompanying documentation, this BN1 was converted to 100M specs by August 1955, over a month before official 100M production began on September 15, 1955. The car features a louvered hood with a leather strap which was installed as part of the package by the Donald Healey Motor Company. New sheet metal was fitted in the floors and lower fenders under previous ownership, while the car was repainted in red and much of the brightwork was re-chromed after the seller’s purchase in 2005.
The 100 featured a windshield that could be lowered into a raked position to reduce aerodynamic drag. Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires. A narrated walk-around video has been provided by the seller. Pitting is noted on the bumpers, aftermarket fender trim is fitted, and the cockpit surround trim is out of alignment.
The interior is trimmed in black upholstery with red piping, carpeting, and door panels. Features include a banjo steering wheel, a 120-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, lap belts, and a 100M dash plaque. Approximately 45k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer.
The numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four featured larger twin SU carburetors, a revised intake manifold and airbox, and a modified distributor in Le Mans form. The engine was rebuilt under previous ownership in 1989, and fitted with replacement carburetors under the seller’s ownership. Engine stamping #213153 matches that shown on the original UK registration paperwork.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed A90 manual transmission with overdrive on second and third gears. The fuel filler has been relocated to the front of the trunk.
An invoice for the Le Mans conversion dated August 3, 1955 is provided along with British registration paperwork from the original owner, manuals, a 100M Registry certificate, and a June 1995 article from Austin-Healey Magazine. The car is sold with transferrable Connecticut registration in the seller’s name, as the state does not issue titles for vehicles of its age.
