This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is a left-hand-drive North American export model and one of approximately 11k examples built between May 1953 and August 1955. The car underwent a refurbishment in red and black in 1989, and power is provided by a 2,660cc inline-four paired with a three-speed manual transmission featuring an overdrive for its top two gears. Service and modifications upon the seller’s acquisition in 2017 consisted of a tune-up, carburetor rebuilds, cleaning of the cooling system, installation of a Jet Hot-coated exhaust manifold, and an oil change. This BN1 is offered with a soft top and side curtains, a tonneau cover, a BMIHT Certificate, partial service records, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car underwent a color change from Spruce Green to red and black in 1989, and features a fold-back windshield as well as chrome bumpers with overriders.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are said to have been tuned and fitted with 165SR-15 Michelin XZX tires in 2017 by Hendrix Wire Wheel, a marque specialist, in 2017 . A four-wheel alignment was performed by Hinkle’s Alignment in Siler City, North Carolina in November 2019.
The cockpit was reupholstered under previous ownership in black with red piping, matching door panels, a red steel dashboard with metal trim, and black carpets. The banjo steering wheel houses a trafficator control which was refurbished by Curtis Arndt in 2018.
Smiths instrumentation consists of a speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer indicates 9k miles, of which approximately 1,000 have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2,660cc inline-four was factory-rated at 90 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque when new. Both SU carburetors are said to have been refurbished, the cooling system cleaned, and a Jet Hot-coated exhaust manifold installed in 2017. A tune-up and oil change were also completed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission paired with an electrically-actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive that can be activated in second and third gears.
