This 1954 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is said to have been acquired by the uncle of the seller’s spouse in 1959. It later underwent a refurbishment in 1982 that involved a repaint in black along with an interior re-trim in red leather. Power is supplied by a 2.7-liter inline-four equipped with twin SU carburetors, while shifting is through a three-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive. Further details include an adjustable-rake windscreen, a banjo-style steering wheel, and Smiths instrumentation along with a retractable red vinyl soft top and removable side curtains. This 100 BN1 roadster is now offered with service records and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in black and is said to have been repainted as part of the aforementioned 1982 refurbishment. Details include a retractable red vinyl soft top, an adjustable-rake windscreen, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wear 165-series Firestone F-560 tires. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes all around.

The low-back bucket seats have been re-trimmed in red leather and are accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. A rearview mirror is mounted atop the dash, and the shifter is situated to the left of the central tunnel.

The banjo-style steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer has rolled over and now shows 1,600 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.7-liter inline-four features a green-painted engine block and valve covers. The twin SU H4 carburetors wear green-finished “pancake” air filters. An oil change was performed in anticipation of the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive on the second and third gears.

A selection of records are included in the sale along with a knock-off hammer and side curtains.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
