Lot #73012
This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 is a left-hand-drive roadster completed on August 12, 1955, for the North American export market and is powered by a numbers-matching 2.7L inline-four mated to a retrofitted four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is said to be fitted with Le Mans equipment consisting of larger twin SU carburetors, a cold air box, and a louvered bonnet with a leather strap, and it was refinished in green over black leather under previous ownership. Additional equipment includes a folding windshield, driving lamps, a badge bar, chrome front and rear bumpers, and 15″ wire wheels with chrome knock-offs. This BN1 roadster was acquired by the current owner in 2022 and is now offered on dealer consignment in Arizona with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Washington State title.
The car was factory finished in Carmine Red and was repainted in Spruce Green under previous ownership. Equipment includes a black soft top, a full tonneau cover, a folding windscreen, a louvered hood with a brown leather retaining strap, a badge bar, driving lamps, and chrome-finished headlamp stone guards.
Silver-painted 15″ wire wheels are mounted with 165 series Dunlop SP20 A/S tires and are secured to the car with chrome two-eared knock-offs. A full-size spare is stowed in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
The refurbished interior features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with white piping accompanied by a matching pad on the driveshaft tunnel. Austin-Healey-branded rubber floor mats protect black carpeting, and safety equipment includes lap belts and a chrome grab handle affixed to the passenger side of the dash.
A 100M “Le Mans” registry plaque is secured to the body-color dash, stating that the car is equipped with the performance modifications used on the Austin-Healeys that competed in the 1953 Le Mans 24-hour race.
A wrapped wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 70k miles, approximately 50 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The numbers-matching 2.7-liter inline-four was reportedly overhauled during the refurbishment and is said to be equipped with Le Mans equipment consisting of larger SU carburetors than the stock BN1 along with a cold air intake box.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a retrofitted four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists serial numbers as well as the original color combination and factory equipment.
The VIN 227550 listed on the Washington State title excludes the BN1L prefix on the identification tag.

2,660cc overhead valve inline four-cylinder engine
Dual 1¾" SU carburetors
100hp @4,300 rpm
4-speed gearbox with electric overdrive
Independent coil spring front suspension, live rear axle with quarter-elliptic leaf springs
Four-wheel drum brakes
*Beautifully presented 1950s classic
*Astoundingly smooth bodywork – flat and precise fit
*Le-Mans conversion
*Austin-Healey Concours Registry 'Gold Award' example
Built on 12 August 1955, this is a very late BN1 Austin-Healey 100 built in the same month as the changeover to the BN2. Something like 10,000 BN1s had been built in the two years since the 100's introduction, and there was a great deal of experience by the factory, parts suppliers and thousands of enthusiastic owners, this late BN1 benefits from a series of upgrades and improvements over the model's life.
It was restored in the mid-1990s by Edrick Adams and earned an Austin-Healey Concours Registry Gold award in August of 1997. Additionally, it is accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
Originally Carmine Red, it is now finished in Spruce Green, one of the most rare of A-H 100 colors and also one of the most attractive. The black leather upholstery with composite material on non-wearing surfaces is piped in white and is matched by a black composite folding top. A twine-wrapped woodrim steering wheel is a highlight of the interior.
Its Le Mans Kit was added by an owner during its lifetime – as were all BN1 A-H 100s with the Le Mans Kit. The gearbox has been upgraded to the later BN2-spec 4-speed with overdrive. Also fitted with a badge bar, a pair of large driving lights, headlight stoneguards and silver painted wire wheels (including the spare), its bodywork is astoundingly smooth, flat and precisely fit.
Despite being restored a quarter century ago it is as crisp and sharp as a freshly restored Austin-Healey 100, showing appreciative and caring ownership and maintenance since it was restored.
Lay back the windshield, fire up the lusty Austin four and drive, show and enjoy one of the finest Austin-Healey 100 Le Mans conversions available, a prime example of the British (car) invasion, long before the Beatles hooked up in 1960 for the next British invasion (music.)

Lot #232290
This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 is a left-hand-drive roadster that has been fitted with Le Mans equipment including larger twin SU carburetors and a louvered bonnet with a leather strap. It was refinished in green over black leather under previous ownership, and is powered by a 2.7-liter inline-four mated to a retrofitted four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car was listed on BaT in May 2022, and service since then has included overhauling the brakes, fuel system, and carburetors, along with rebuilding the distributor, installing Le Mans-specification lighting, and replacing the tires. This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 is now is now offered on consignment by 911r, a BaT Local Partner, in Portland, Oregon with service records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) certificate, and a clean Washington title.
The car was originally Carmine Red and was repainted in Spruce Green under previous ownership. Features include a black convertible top, a full tonneau cover, a clip-on windscreen, and a louvered hood secured with a brown leather retaining strap. Work in 2023 included installing Lucas 1955 Le Mans-specification headlamps, front fog lights, custom license plate and light brackets, rear license plate mount, bumper delete plates, and bumper hole plugs. The spare tire hold-down bar was sandblasted and painted, paint chips were touched up, and the rear bumper area was buffed. A Le Mans-style fuel filler cap was also added.
Silver 15″ wire wheels are secured with chrome-finished two-eared knock-offs and were mounted with 165-section Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in 2023. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums, and the system was overhauled in 2023. Suspension work at that time included replacing the front anti-roll bar bushings and Panhard bar bushings. The right-front hub was shimmed, and the rear hubs were machined to fit replacement bearings. Mismatched wheel bearings were also corrected. The brake fluid was flushed in preparation for the sale.
The cabin features bucket seats that were retrimmed in black leather with white piping, joined by a matching pad on the driveshaft tunnel. A 100M “Le Mans” Registry plaque is affixed to the dash. In 2023, the seat bases and foam were modified and repaired to return them to the factory height. The gearshift boot was replaced and missing snaps were installed on the armrest pad.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 72k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.7-liter inline-four was reportedly overhauled during previous ownership and is equipped with larger SU carburetors, a Weslake competition cylinder head, and a factory-specification cold air intake box. The engine is also fitted with a Langford header and a 2-inch exhaust system, and a “Le Mans Modification Kit” plaque is affixed to the intake box. Service in 2023 included replacing the fuel tank, sending unit, filter, and tubing. The carburetors, distributor, and generator were rebuilt, the throttle linkage was repaired and adjusted, the 90-degree heater hose and upper and lower radiator hoses were replaced, and a long-reach Healey radiator cap was installed. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale, and a compression test at that time yielded between 166 and 170 psi across the cylinders.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a retrofitted BN2-style four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The installation involved modifications to the frame cruciform to accommodate a welded rebound mount. The transmission and differential fluids were changed in 2026.
The VIN 227550 listed on the Washington State title excludes the BN1L prefix on the identification tag
