For sale on e-bay: www.ebay.it/itm/320965586769
This is the car that Carrol Shelby wanted to build but Austin weren't that keen and he ended up going to AC instead and the legendary AC Cobra was born. An ideal alternative for someone considering buying a Cobra replica or an HMC Austin Healey. Either of these may have the looks but not the heritage.
This car started life as a 1957 BN4L 4 seat, convertible, Austin Healey 100/6 but in the early 70's was converted by a well respected race shop in Cypress, California. The original straight 6 engine was replaced with a Ford 289 cu inch (4736cc)V8, mated to an aluminium T10 4 speed manual transmission and a narrowed Ford back axle. The original Healey front suspension remained but fitted with telescopic Bilstein shock absorbers instead of the old lever arm shocks. A matching set of Bilsteins are on the rear too. Front disc brakes from a later model Healey were also fitted so that it stops as well as it goes. It has recently been rebuilt with a blueprinted engine, fitted with a brand new carburettor and ignition system. The wiring has also been replaced using an upgraded aftermarket fusebox.
While the chassis is the original Healey item, the bodywork has been skilfully modified to incorporate flared wheel arches front and rear to allow the fitting of wider chromed, bolt on, wire wheels and cooling louvres have been set into the front wings and bonnet. All of the bodywork is metal; original aluminium shrouds with steel wings, doors, boot and bonnet. No fibreglass and filler is to be found anywhere on the car and, having come from California, it is completely rust free. At the same time as the recent rebuild, the bodywork was sprayed in light metallic blue (a BMW colour) and a custom made stainless steel exhaust system with a pair of twin outlet Ansa tailpipes.
The car comes complete with a brand new convertible roof, tonneau cover and Perspex flyscreens.
The interior has been re-trimmed and new carpets fitted, even in the boot. The dash features SW instruments which show that the engine stays cool, by virtue of the 4 core radiator with electric fan, the oil pressure is excellent and everything else is as it should be. It sounds absolutely gorgeous and the performance is what you would expect from this engine fitted in a lightweight car.
Driving it brings a smile to the face of the driver and everyone that sees it. The noise, the instantaneous acceleration at the slightest pressure on the throttle pedal and just the whole feeling of driving a proper Healey as it should have been right from the beginning.
The car was imported earlier this year and registered in the UK so has a current MoT and tax. Obviously somebody at DVLA must have an ordinary Healey or a sense of humour as it has been given an age related registration with the letters spelling YUK! It is registered as a 1957 Austin Healey 100/6 so qualifies for free road tax as an Historic Vehicle and it retains its original Austin Healey BN4L chassis number.

Car to be at auction 2/15

Auction description:
Race Retro Classic Car Sale
Austin Healey 100/6 Cobra 289
Lot No.: 642
Registration: 443 YUK
Chassis Number: BN4L-0-31501
Engine Number: Not Specified
Number of cylinders: V8
CC: 4700
Year of Manufacture: 1957
Estimate (£): 25,000 - 30,000
Now fitted with a full spec Ford 289 V8 - as originally fitted to both the Ford Mustang and AC Cobra - this ex California car retains the great looks of the 100/6 but brings an added dimension in terms of performance. The transmission and rear axle from an AC Cobra have also been fitted to make sure that the power train matches the significant increase in both torque and power.
The result is a very hairy 'Big Healey' that redefines the car's performance and puts it straight in to AC Cobra territory. The car has recently had fitted both a new 'Dennis Welch' steering box as well as new discs on the front and new drum brakes on the rear.
Now said to drive superbly, it comes to the sale with a fresh MOT and a great opportunity for some wind in the hair motoring this coming Spring.

Purchased from previous owner, Mike Hewitt, who had owned car for last 3 years, having purchased from previous owner in Peterborough
Still drives very nicely, with original AC Cobra 289 cubic (4.7litre) engine...very quick and 4 exhausts give lovely rasp!
