Car to be at auction 8/15
rickcole.com/1959-austin-healey-100-6/

Auction description:
Quite possibly the finest example of the "Big Healey" ever offered at auction.

Austin-Healey Club of America (AHCA) Gold Concours award winner (2014), freshly restored by marque expert Lynn Martin at Forever Healeys. Complete with corresponding British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, tools, original owner's manual, restoration book, and fitted with a handsome Lempert steering wheel. Well-equipped with factory-fitted options including overdrive for touring ease. Simply one of the finest expressions of the legendary "Big Healey," equally ready to show or enjoy!

Rightly prized today as a highly capable open-air British sports car even by today's jaded standards, this outstanding, concours-quality 1959 Austin-Healey 100-6 BN6 Two-Seater marks what many committed Healey enthusiasts regard as one of the best and most visually appealing of all the many variants of the "Big Healey." As a late-production 100-6, it is quite rare today and includes desirable front-disc brakes. According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, it was completed during the first week of February 1959 as an original left-hand drive North American export model and despatched on February 11 for the United States via Los Angeles. Desirable factory equipment included an adjustable steering column, heater, overdrive, Road Speed tires, and a set of wire-spoke wheels.

Purchased in 2010 by the Consignor, who is a discerning and well-known collector from the Pacific Northwest, from the prior owner of some 25 years, this stellar 100-6 is the product of a total, body-off-frame restoration performed by marque expert Lynn Martin of Forever Healeys in Post Falls, Idaho to demanding Austin-Healey Club Gold Concours standards. The restoration was completed in 2014 and in testament to this Healey's excellence it withstood more than 2 ½ hours of intense scrutiny by a four-judge team to earn - on its show debut - Austin-Healey Club Concours Gold honors. It should be noted that this award was one of only two Gold awards granted on the West Coast during 2014. The other Gold award that year was earned by the 1956 Austin-Healey 100M we are offering from the same Consignor. Next, this 100-6 was loaned for display at the Le May Automobile Museum in Tacoma, Washington.

In addition to the aforementioned BMIHT Certificate, this wonderful 100-6 BN6 retains the original matching numbers engine and it is offered complete with a handsome Lempert steering wheel, a complete toolkit, an original owner's manual, and a book documenting its award-winning restoration. Only an approximate 100 miles have been logged since the restoration was completed in order to ensure proper sorting and running order. As offered, this "Big Healey" is an ideal, turn-key example for enthusiasts of the classic lines, raw power, and nimble handling so emblematic of these iconic British sporting machines. As such, it stands equally ready to take pride of place on the concours lawn or if desired, it will provide its lucky new owner with a truly thrilling classic drive. View the 2 Heritage Certificates here and here.

Workshop Manual and Folder with lots of Austin-Healy background and technical articles will be included with the purchase.

Since the restoration the car has been driven over 9000 miles and has never been trailered to an event. The longest road trip was a 600+ mile roundtrip drive to the Montreal F1 race in 2019, to drive in the Pilots Parade prior to the F1 race. In addition this car has won Best in Class Concours awards at US east coast British Car Events.

The car has been meticulously maintained and could still be expected to achieve over a 950 point score for a Gold Certification if judged by the Austin-Healey Concours Registry. Everything works like new.

This is a number matching car per the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate. See images of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, the Vehicle ID Plate, and the Engine Number Plate.  This car has a clean Massachusetts Title and passed the Massachusetts State Inspection in June 2024.

This is a drivable concours car that is ready to provide many smiles per mile to the next owner.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
