From the original austinhealey.com web site.

"Tal Burkett, Marion, Ohio, USA: 1958 White 100-6, # BN6L-0647

Purchased from James Crawford, Toronto, Ohio in 1980. The car had been originally purchased as a gift for the wife of a local Ford Dealership owner, Dar Hartwell. His wife didn't like the car. (Hey, I didn't say she had good taste) Regardless, Jim Crawford purchased the car from Mr. Hartwell in 1958, and kept it in good working order. Jim gave the car as a graduation gift to his oldest son who promptly beat the hell out of the car.

I called Jim, not knowing he had given the car to his boy, and asked if he would sell the car to me. He relayed the sad story of the car's demise and the fact that it was on blocks and not worth much. Sight unseen, I purchased the car with the promise that I would restore it.

I completed a frame off restoration over a period of 2 years, 1984-85. Originally done in O.E. White, I opted for a cleaner, brighter looking Corvette White. By the way, the very first person to drive the car following the restoration was Jim Crawford, the previous owner. Nothing but smiles and tears! The picture attachment shows my baby with the original 48 spoke wires, I have since put Minilite repros on it. (Man, what a handling difference!)

This is not a garage baby. I drive it whenever I can. In the last 15 years, I've put 30,000+ on the car. The old girl has even seen a few dozen hot laps around the track at Mid-Ohio, compliments of the good folks at Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd."

Great story! It would be even better if you could post up some pictures of your car.
I have owned BN6L/942 since April 1st, 1978__NO JOKE! I used my '77 tax refund check as a down payment. I bought it when I lived in San Francisco, then it stayed with me almost 20 yrs before we moved up to Toledo, Ohio. Since 2012 we have been in SW Florida.
I too drive mine whenever I can, and I haven't put the top on the car since I moved here (only been caught in the rain twice).
Cheers!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
