This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II is finished in a two-tone black and white paint scheme over red leather and is powered by a 2.9L inline-six mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The previous owner purchased it after a prior refurbishment and reportedly spent over $50k in further improvements and maintenance. Work in the last year has included a transmission rebuild and the installation of a new aluminum radiator, aluminum exhaust system, A/C compressor and condenser, brake booster and master cylinder, starter, and more described below. This 3000 Mk II is being offered by the selling dealer with partial service records and a clean Washington title.

The black and white finish and a matching hardtop is included in the sale, and a pair of Lucas foglights have been installed. The side-exit exhaust pipes can be seen above.

New 15″ black knock-off wire wheels were mounted in July 2018 and wear Michelin XWX tires.

The red leather upholstery on the front and rear seats, dash panel, and door panels is contrasted by a black leather dash top and door window sills, as well as grey carpets and a wooden-rimmed steering wheel. The car is equipped with air conditioning, and the cockpit has been insulated to reduce noise and heat. The headliner in the hardtop has been refinished.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 6k-tachometer and a 120-mph speedometer that hosts a five-digit odometer indicating 91k miles.

The 2.9-liter C-series inline-six is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and an electrically-actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive, which can be engaged in third and fourth gears via a dashboard switch. The generator was removed in favor of an alternator, and a new starter, aluminum radiator, and aluminum side-exit exhaust system have been installed.

Maintenance completed in 2018 included a rebuild of the transmission with a new first gear ring, second gear synchro ring, mainshaft, laygear cluster, case, detent balls and springs, front bearing, selector shaft, gaskets, and seals. Additional work included the following:

Clutch kit installed
Resurfaced flywheel
Brake booster kit installed
New brake master cylinder installed
Heater box replaced with new climate control unit
New A/C compressor and condenser installed
New alternator and A/C belts installed
U-joints replaced
Speedometer cable replaced
Fuel pump replaced
Spark plugs replaced
Timing and carburetors adjusted
Replaced both rear axle seals, o-rings, and gaskets
Replaced rear brake shoes

Service records for the work mentioned above are included and total nearly $7,500. The video below features a detailed view of the underside with narration, along with an exterior walk around, start up, and test drive.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
