This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was purchased new by the current owner in November 1962 from Irv Leopold Imports of Milwaukie, Oregon, and a 2025 interview of the owner talking about the vehicle is presented in the video gallery below. The car was refurbished from 1987 through 2005, during which it was refinished in Ivory and tan with a tan soft top over tan leather upholstery with ivory piping. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, dual side mirrors, a banjo-style steering wheel, lap belts, and a cabin heater. The car is said to have won its class multiple times at the All British Field Meet in Portland, Oregon, since completion of the refurbishment. This 3000 Mk IIA is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment photos, service records since 1987, manufacturer’s literature, an Irv Leopold license-plate frame, and an Oregon title under the owner’s revocable living trust.
Finished from the factory in Healey White, the car was repainted in Ivory during the refurbishment, with metal and body work performed by Tom’s Import Toy Sales of Portland, Oregon. The tan-colored lower coves are said to have been color-matched to the replacement Haartz cloth convertible top as well as the boot and tonneau cover. Features include vertical grille bars, a hood scoop, a curved windshield, A-pillar-mounted side mirrors, pivoting vent windows, roll-up door windows, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels were rechromed during the refurbishment and are mounted with 205/65 General Ameri G4S radial tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that have been retrimmed in tan leather with ivory-colored piping that was installed in 2004 by Guy’s Interior Restorations of Portland, Oregon. Interior appointments include a brown dashboard, a center armrest, lap belts, a heater, a passenger-side grab handle, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames rebuilt Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer has rolled over once, according to the seller, and shows 16k miles; approximately 1k miles have been added since 2005. The seller states that the odometer reading is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was rebuilt by Oregon’s Jim Classen during the refurbishment, the seller tells us. The oil was changed most recently in July 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.
Additional refurbishment photos are provided in the gallery and also in the aforementioned interview video of the owner.
Service records dating back to 1987 will accompany the vehicle.
The car’s chassis number is HBJ7L21187, whereas the Oregon title cites only the latter portion of the sequence: 21187.
