This 1963 Austin Healey 3000 was reportedly purchased by its second California owner in 1976 and refurbished in the early 1980s with a color change from white to red, interior work, a rebuild of its 2.9-liter inline-six, and more. The car is also equipped with a four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock overdrive, a replacement soft top, and chrome 60-spoke Dunlop wire wheels with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The most recent service reportedly included replacement of the brake and clutch master cylinders, water pump, thermostat, fuel tank, and overdrive solenoid. This BJ7 Mk II was acquired by the seller in July 2018 and is now offered with partial service records dating to 1976, an aftermarket hard top, a tonneau cover and soft top boot, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The color of this example was changed from white to the current red in the early 1980s under previous ownership, with preparation for the paintwork reportedly involving disassembly as well as rust repair in the floor pans and right rear dogleg. The seller states that the finish shows filled-in chips on the right front fender and near the right rear taillight.

The soft top was reportedly replaced during the previous refurbishment, and stows beneath an AMCO boot when lowered. A full-cockpit tonneau cover is also included along with a Dynaplastics hardtop featuring a textured finish and porthole windows, with both shown in the gallery below. Chrome Dunlop 60-spoke wire wheels with knock-off hubs are said to be new old-stock items made in England, and wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.

The four-place cockpit has been partially refurbished and features black upholstery with white piping. A Haan wood-rimmed steering wheel replaces the factory item and retains a hub-mounted trafficator switch, and a BMCD Custom AM radio and factory heater are equipped. Spare interior materials and trim are said to be included in the sale.

The Laycock de Normanville overdrive is engaged with a toggle switch to the right of the steering column. Smiths gauges include a five-digit odometer showing 38k miles. Service records are said to indicate that 3k miles were driven by the previous owner since 1976, and 100 miles have reportedly been added over the seller’s year of ownership.

The trunk houses the battery as well as a matching Dunlop spare wheel with a new tire. Photos taken during the installation of a new fuel tank and sending unit are included. Extra trunk liner material is included the sale.

The 2,912cc C-Series inline-six was reportedly rebuilt and a new clutch and re-cored radiator were installed during the previous refurbishment. The engine is equipped with twin SU HS6 carburetors and was rated at 131 horsepower when new. The most recent service involved replacement of the water pump and thermostat as well as the brake and clutch master cylinders. The seller states that a recent compression test revealed over 165psi in all six cylinders, though supporting documentation is not pictured.

Power is sent through a four-speed manual gearbox paired with an electrically-actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive, which can be engaged in third and fourth gears and features a replacement solenoid. The dampers, springs, exhaust, and brakes were reportedly replaced during the previous owner’s refurbishment.

Service and parts receipts are said to provide a partial record of the refurbishment and other work performed between 1976-present.
