This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II is a 2+2 convertible finished in red with a black convertible soft top over a red interior and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes fender-mounted mirrors, chrome bumpers with overriders, front disc brakes, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, and twin SU carburetors. The car was sold new at Davis Buick in Dayton, Ohio, and reportedly remained with the original owner until it was acquired by the current owner in 2011. This 3000 BJ7 MkII is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with an owner’s manual, a service booklet, partial service records, a tonneau cover, a top boot, a copy of the original Ohio title, and a clean California title.
The body is finished in red and features a black convertible soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, a hood scoop, fender-mounted mirrors, and chrome rear deck hinges. The seller states that the left-rear quarter panel was refinished under current ownership to repair damage incurred in an accident that occurred under previous ownership. Rock chips and wear can be seen.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in 165/80 Classic All-Season tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, and the suspension utilizes front coil springs and rear leaf springs. The brake fluid was serviced in preparation for the sale.
The interior features low-back front bucket seats that have been reupholstered in red with black piping and are accompanied by red door panels and a black dash pad. BJ7 models featured dual rear seat bottoms with a shared backrest pad for a 2+2 convertible configuration. Additional features include a Smith’s heater, a Motorola AM radio, and a speaker. The seller notes staining on the rear seats and wear on the replacement carpet kit.
The black steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, approximately 6k of which were added by the current owner.
The 2.9-liter C-series inline-six features twin SU carburetors. The fuel tank was drained, the oil was changed, the engine coolant was serviced, and a replacement battery was installed in June 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive that can be engaged in third and fourth gears via a dash switch. The clutch hydraulic fluid was serviced in preparation for the sale. Spots of corrosion are noted on the underside.
