Auction info:
Motor Car Sale, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (24th May 2006)
1965 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 MKIII
Finished in dark blue with beige leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "very good" (engine, gearbox) condition. First registered to Gallie's Garage Ltd of Lye, Stourbridge on 11th June 1965, it was acquired by the Kitson family (via their Lye Trading Co Ltd) the following February. Transferred into the name of Mrs. G Kitson during autumn 1971, the Big Healey was resprayed in metallic blue (to match its Aston Martin DB6 stablemate) at around the same time. Entering the current ownership direct from the Kitson family three years ago, we are informed that 'VAS 935' "has always been well maintained and has a good original patina". Believed to have covered approximately 125,000 miles from new, it is further said to "drive extremely well". Riding on chrome wire wheels, this desirable 3000 MKIII is offered for sale with history file, original green logbook, Lye Trading Co Ltd correspondence, an independent written valuation for 27,000 (issued April 2005), MOT certificate valid until May 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until June 6th 2006.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
