This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment in California approximately 14 years ago. The car was subsequently shipped to Florida where it remained in a private collection until it was acquired by the seller in September 2020. Finished in black and red over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a Talbot Berlin-style mirror, wood dash trim, and dual SU carburetors. This BJ8 is offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Florida title.
The car was refinished in black and red approximately 14 years ago and features a black convertible soft top and boot. Additional exterior details include quarter vent windows, a Talbot Berlin-style mirror, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 195/65 Bridgestone Insignia SE200 tires. Unlike its predecessor the 100, the 3000 was equipped with front disc brakes. Per the seller, the factory mastery cylinder was rebuilt and stainless steel brake lines were installed under current ownership.
The four-place cabin houses low-back front bucket seats and individual rear seats that are upholstered in red leather that extends to the center console and door panels. Interior elements include burl wood dashboard trim, a heater, front lap belts, roll-up windows, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and a radio block-off plate.
The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable steering column and fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 71k miles, approximately 5k of which have been added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is fed by dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 148 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a production date of August 20, 1965, with original delivery to Charleston, South Carolina, as well as factory colors and identification numbers.
