This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is a non-running project that is finished in red and equipped with a 2.9-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes a banjo-style steering wheel, 15″ wire wheels, twin SU carburetors, and side vent windows. The car was acquired by the seller in 2021, reportedly following 20 years in storage. Subsequent work included replacing the exhaust system, starter solenoid, trunk floor, rear seat support panels, and floor pans. This BJ8 Mk III project is offered at no reserve with a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in faded red paint and equipment includes a hood scoop, side vent windows, bullet-style fenders fender mirrors, and bumpers with overriders. The soft top has been removed from the top frame, the glass is missing from the right-side fender mirror, a dent is present in the left-rear quarter panel, and corrosion is noted on the trunk lid, lower front fenders, rocker panels, and inner panels around the doglegs.
Silver-painted 15″ wire wheels with two-eared knock-offs are mounted with older 165-series Dunlop SP4 tires. The car was equipped from the factory with power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The front brake calipers were tied up away from the rotors under prior ownership.
The interior is missing with the exception of the rear seat bottoms, weathered wood dash, and black dash pad. Details include a center stack, a rearview mirror, a locking glove box, and chrome-finished door levers and window cranks. The floor pans, rear seat support panels, and the trunk floor were replaced following the seller’s acquisition.
A banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instruments including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges monitoring fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 86k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors. An oil change was performed, and a replacement starter solenoid and exhaust system were installed under current ownership. The seller states that the engine turns over freely, but has not been started.
The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission and an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit.
The car is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California.
