This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a repaint in British Racing Green, an interior re-trim in black leather, and rebuilds of its 2.9-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission as part of a refurbishment completed in 2020. The car rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and has front disc brakes as well as Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The cockpit features 2+2 seating accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a black soft top. Acquired by the current owner in 2025, this 3000 Mk III is now offered on dealer consignment by Automotive International—a BaT Local Partner—with a driver’s handbook, refurbishment photos, and a clean North Carolina title.

The seller tells us that the body was removed from the frame and repainted in British Racing Green as part of the aforementioned 2020 refurbishment. The car wears a replacement black soft top and features a hood scoop as well as chrome bumpers with overriders.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 165/80 Nexen tires, and a matching spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The suspension and brakes were reportedly rebuilt in the course of the 2020 refurbishment.

The refreshed 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather as well as replacement burl wood dash trim. Additional interior appointments include a cabin heater, a dash-mounted mirror, a locking glovebox, and a center console as well as quarter vent windows and roll-up door glass.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the gauges were overhauled as part of the refurbishment and that true mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Work performed as part of the 2020 refurbishment is said to have involved rebuilding the engine as well as replacing the wiring harness and installing a stainless-steel exhaust system.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. The transmission is said to have been rebuilt as part of the 2020 refurbishment.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
