This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller in 2003, and it is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in British Racing Green over black Ambla vinyl. Features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats. Work since 2021 has involved replacing the fuel level sending unit as well as the rear brake shoes, cylinder, and wheel bearings. This 3000 Mk III is now offered at no reserve with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records, a typed maintenance log, a spare set of wheels, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in British Racing Green, and the seller notes evidence of prior body work. The black soft top is torn and missing the rear window, and there is corrosion on the right fender. Other imperfections are visible.
The 15″ knock-off Dayton stainless-steel wire wheels are mounted with 185/70 Vredestein tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. A replacement brake booster was installed in 2020, and the rear brake shoes, cylinders, and wheel bearings were replaced in 2021. The seller states that the parking brake requires adjustment. A spare set of wheels is included in the sale.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black Ambla vinyl, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, and wood trim. The seller notes that the overdrive switch does not always engage.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. A typed log shown in the gallery below details maintenance performed since 2003. The fuel level sending unit was replaced in November 2024.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. Rust is present on the underbody.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors and equipment.
