This 1965 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 1978 and is powered by a replacement 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in red over black vinyl upholstery, the car is equipped with a black soft top and boot cover, dual SU carburetors, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, chrome bumpers and trim, and fender-mounted mirrors as well as Smiths instrumentation, a heater, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. Work performed in March 2022 involved fluid changes as well as rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the brake booster and fuel filter. This BJ8 Mk III is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with a driver’s handbook, a workshop manual, a Gunson’s Colortune adjustment kit, a black tonneau cover, a spare set of floor mats, spare parts, tools, receipts for work performed under current ownership, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in red with a black convertible soft top and a matching boot cover. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, a hood scoop, vent windows, fender-mounted side mirrors, a polished fuel filler cap, and twin exhaust outlets. A black tonneau cover is included in the sale. The rocker panels were replaced in 1979, and the selling dealer indicates that previous collision damage repair is evident on the front and rear of the vehicle.
Silver-finished 15″ wire wheels featuring two-eared knock-off spinners are mounted with an older set of 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires. A spare is located in the trunk, and braking is provided by front discs and rear drums. The brake master cylinder was replaced and the brake fluid was flushed in March 2022. The knock-off spinners are pitted.
The interior was re-trimmed in July 2016 and features seats upholstered in black vinyl with perforated inserts along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Appointments include a burl wood veneer dashboard, a heater, a wooden shift knob, a dash-mounted mirror, a Blaupunkt push-button radio, and lap belts.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel has a cracked horn button and sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 28k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six was overhauled by Quality Coaches in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in August 1995 and is equipped with dual SU carburetors that were rebuilt in March 2022, at which time the oil was changed and the fuel filter and hose were replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer notes corrosion is evident on the rocker panels.
A driver’s handbook is included in the sale along with a workshop manual, a Gunson’s Colortune adjustment kit, tools, a spare set of floor mats, spare parts, and receipts for work performed under current ownership.
