1965 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Convertible – Factory Healey Blue – BMIHT Certified Project – High Compression & Overdrive
This 1965 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III (BJ8), VIN H-BJ8-L/30694, is a rare opportunity to restore a ''Big Healey'' with a fully documented factory history. We are proud to include the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) Certified Copy of a Factory Record, which confirms this car was built between 12–13 January 1965 and dispatched to New York, USA on 3 March 1965. This is a factory-correct, desirable High Compression model with Electronic Overdrive, originally finished in the iconic Healey Blue over a Blue interior. The sale includes a significant head-start with brand new aluminum body panels (fenders, doors, trunk lid), saving the next owner thousands in metalwork and providing an ideal foundation for a show-quality restoration.
Exterior
The car is currently a disassembled project, but the included BMIHT certificate confirms its original birth in the most sought-after Austin-Healey color: Healey Blue. The original chassis and tub are solid, and the inclusion of high-quality aluminum body panels ensures a lightweight and rust-free foundation for the next paint phase. All major structural components are present, though the car is in pieces and ready for final prep.
Interior
Originally specified with a Blue trim and Blue hood (top), the interior is currently disassembled for restoration. The original dash frame and various gauges are included. Per the factory record, this car was equipped from the assembly line with an adjustable steering column and a heater. While the upholstery and soft goods will need a full replacement, having the original interior tub and major hardware provides a clear roadmap for returning this BJ8 to its factory-correct blue-on-blue elegance.
Underhood & Underbody
The technical specifications of this car are its strongest selling point. The BMIHT certificate verifies that Engine Number 29K-RU-H/5435 is the factory-correct unit, featuring the High Compression (H) head and Overdrive (RU) transmission. The engine appears upgraded and ready to run, though it is currently out of the car. Additional factory equipment listed on the certificate includes wire wheels, laminated windscreen, and Roadspeed tires. The frame is solid and ready for the reinstallation of the drivetrain. Please note: This is a disassembled project.
