This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased by the seller in 1997 following a repaint in two-tone red and ivory over black vinyl upholstery under previous ownership. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, front disc brakes, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, and chrome bumpers with overriders as well as a banjo-style steering wheel, a cabin heater, and a Monza exhaust system. Recent service has included installing a gear-reduction starter and a Lucas generator, and performing an oil change. This BJ8 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, partial service records, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Ivory White and was refinished in its current two-tone red and ivory under previous ownership. Exterior details include a black soft top, a hood scoop, vent windows, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual fender-mounted mirrors, and dual Monza exhaust tips. Stone chips are noted in the paint along with a paint blemish on the left-rear quarter panel and misaligned door gaps.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs are mounted with 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires that were reportedly installed in 2022. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes that were refreshed in April 2015 by replacing a front rotor, the front pads, brake hoses, and rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders.
The cabin features low-back bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl upholstery with contrasting white piping as well as black-upholstered lower seat cushions. Appointments include a locking glovebox, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, front lap belts, and a cabin heater. Wear is visible on the switches, pedals, and dashboard.
The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable steering column and fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a replacement 7k-rpm tachometer, a Jaeger fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge for monitoring oil pressure and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 85k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes the speedometer and odometer do not work, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors. Work since 2022 has included installing a gear-redution starter and a Lucas generator, and performing an oil change,.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The clutch, clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder were replaced in 1997. According to the seller, the car was fitted with a Monza exhaust system under previous ownership.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was dispatched to the United States on May 5, 1965, and lists the serial numbers, colors, and equipment along with the build date and destination. Partial service records are also included in the sale.
The Florida title is listed as a duplicate.
