This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and it is finished in metallic blue over blue vinyl upholstery. The car was acquired in August 2022 by the selling dealer, and work performed in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the fuel pump along with hydraulic brake and clutch components. Equipment includes a blue top boot, dual Talbot side mirrors, 15″ wire wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, a banjo-style steering wheel, and dual SU carburetors. This BJ8 is now offered with a knock-off hammer, a tonneau cover, and a clean Oklahoma title.

The car is finished in metallic blue and is equipped with a hood scoop, a blue top boot, a cowl-mounted antenna, dual fender-mounted Talbot side mirrors, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The paintwork is faded and the soft top is due for replacement. Additional photos of the paint condition and blemishes are provided in the gallery below.

Silver-finished 15″ wire wheels secured by two-eared knock-offs are wrapped in 165-series Metric Radial steel belted tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. Brake system repairs were performed in preparation for the sale and work included replacement of the primary hydraulic cylinder and hoses. Discoloration is noted on the wheels.

The front bucket seats and rear cushions are upholstered in blue vinyl with contrasting bright piping. Interior details include a heater, a locking glove box, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, front lap belts, and Austin-Healey-branded rubber floor mats. The a push-button AM radio is non-functional and photos in the gallery below show worn carpets, cracked wood dashboard trim, and loose upholstery on the rear of the center console.

The banjo-style steering wheel features an aftermarket wrap and frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel level gauge, and a combination gauge for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors. The fuel system was serviced in preparation for the sale and work included draining the system, rebuilding the carburetors, and replacing the fuel pump and filters. Additional work performed during current ownership included replacing the battery in December 2022 and an oil change in January 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The clutch hydraulic cylinders were replaced in preparation for the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
