This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III received a cosmetic refurbishment and was subsequently sold to its current owner on an episode of the television show Wheeler Dealers in 2018. The car is finished in British Racing Green over red leather and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ wire wheels, triple Weber carburetors, and a side-exiting exhaust. Work performed in 2021 included a valve job, a rebuild of the carburetors, and the replacement of engine gaskets and seals as well as the camshaft, flywheel, clutch pressure plate, and fuel pump assembly. This BJ8 is now offered with a soft top boot cover and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in British Racing Green with a black soft top that is shown raised in the gallery below. Exterior details include hood vents, mesh headlight grilles, fender-mounted mirrors, chrome bumpers and trim, and dual exhaust outlets on the left side of the car.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels wear 165 Dunlop SP 4N Steel tires, and a matching spare is stored in the trunk. The car is equipped with front disc brakes.
The refurbished 2+2 cockpit features seating surfaces trimmed in red leather with matching door panels and carpets. Additional appointments include walnut wood trim, front lap belts, a locking glovebox, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a wood shift knob. A lap belt was reportedly replaced under current ownership.
The banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with triple Weber carburetors that were rebuilt and adjusted in August 2021, at which time a valve job was performed and the camshaft, timing chain, valve cover gasket, flywheel, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump assembly were replaced along with other engine seals.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically activated overdrive. A side-exiting exhaust was installed under prior ownership, and the clutch pressure plate was replaced in August 2021. The seller notes difficulty when starting in first gear on hills. Corrosion on the leaf springs is visible.

Seller's description:
Offered for sale is this stunning 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8, finished in British Racing Green over a rich Matador Red leather interior and riding on classic chrome wire wheels. This BJ8 was featured on the acclaimed TV show Wheeler Dealers, where it received a tasteful partial restoration on what was already an extremely solid, original, and rust-free example. Notably, much of the restoration work was completed by Ant Anstead, and the process is documented in the episode.
TV-Documented Restoration Work Includes:
- Triple Weber 45 DCOE carburetors installed for enhanced performance
- Overdrive solenoid replaced
- Reconditioned radiator
- New valve cover gasket
- Correct valve clearance adjustment
- Custom stainless steel free-flow exhaust manifolds and adapters
- Restored walnut dashboard veneer in dark finish
- Fully restored leather interior including seats, panels, and carpets
The iconic inline-six engine starts easily and maintains excellent oil pressure, with no overheating issues—even when tested in the summer heat of Southern California. The Webers are freshly tuned, offering noticeably improved throttle response and power, though they can be slightly temperamental at low RPMs. The gearbox feels very healthy and shifts smoothly with no issues. There are no grinds into gears and no popping out of gear. The overdrive system engages cleanly and performs exactly as intended.
The car has received a professional-quality repaint that presents with high gloss and depth. Panel fit and alignment are great. Minor blemishes are present but have been touched up (see images). Chrome throughout is in exceptional condition, appearing as-new.
The restored Matador Red leather interior is clean and elegant, showing outstanding attention to detail. The wool carpets are in beautiful condition aside from a wear spot near the driver’s heel area. There are also two scratches on the driver’s side window glass. Overall, the cabin feels factory-correct, crisp, and inviting.
This BJ8 is a rare opportunity to own a celebrated example of one of Britain’s most iconic roadsters—upgraded for enhanced performance and driving enjoyment. The combination of originality, cosmetic restoration, and tasteful upgrades makes this Healey ideal for spirited driving, weekend touring, or proud display at classic events.
Sold with a clean California title and ready for immediate enjoyment.
