This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in the early 2000s, and a subsequent refurbishment that was completed in the late 2010s involved work on the drivetrain, paint, and interior. Finished in black and red over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, a black soft top, and an AM/FM radio. This 3000 BJ8 Mk III is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a BMIHT certificate, partial records from current ownership, and a clean California title in the owner’s name that lists the model year as 1966.
Finished from the factory in black, the car reportedly was repainted in black with red lower sections during the aforementioned refurbishment, which involved repair work around the trunk. Exterior details include a black convertible top, a black top boot, fender-mounted side mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire-spoke wheels feature two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 195/65 Pirelli P6 tires. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features low-back front bucket seats and a contoured rear bench upholstered in red leather. Appointments include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a heater, an AM/FM radio, and a locking glovebox. The interior refurbishment reportedly was completed in 2022.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles, approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was built in September 1965 for a specific customer in the United States. Selected options and factory colors are also reflected on the document.
