This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased new by the seller’s father and inherited by the seller in 2005. The car has not run since the mid-1980s and will require mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment prior to use. It wears an older repaint in blue with black leather upholstery and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a cream soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a hood scoop, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a service manual, partial service records, spare parts, and an Ohio title in the seller’s name.
Originally Ivory White, the car wears an older repaint in blue. Bodywork was performed following damage incidents in the 1960s and 1970s, and receipts documenting the work performed can be viewed in the image gallery below. It features a folding cream soft top, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The left-rear turn signal lens is missing along with the antenna and several pieces of trim. Rust is noted in the doors.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels show corrosion and are mounted with 165-series Sprint Vredestein tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather, and interior appointments include a locking glovebox and an aftermarket cassette stereo. The rearview mirror, shift knob, radio speaker, and passenger seat cushion are missing, the door jambs show evidence of prior body repairs, and the interior shows weathering and wear.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The nonfunctional five-digit odometer is zeroed out, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six has reportedly not run since the mid-1980s and will require sorting prior to use.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Rust is noted on the underside, additional photos of which are provided in the gallery.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of October 7th and 8th, 1965, as well as factory serial numbers, colors, and equipment.
The Ohio title carries a “Not Actual Warning: Odometer Discrepancy” note in the mileage notation field.
