This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 1985 and underwent a long-term refurbishment that began in the 1990s and was completed in 2015. Work included rebuilding the 2.9-liter inline-six, overhauling the suspension and brake systems, reupholstering the interior in black vinyl, and repainting the body Metallic Golden Beige. Equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, chrome bumpers, wood dashboard trim, and dual SU carburetors. This 3000 Mk III is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with service records and New York registration in the current owner’s name.
The car is reportedly finished in Metallic Golden Beige and features a folding black soft top, a top boot, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery, and interior appointments include wood dashboard trim, a cabin heater, and a locking glovebox.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, an inoperative tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 10k of which were added under current ownership. The seller states the mileage is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt in the early 1990s and was installed circa 2013. Documents related to the engine rebuild are are included in the sale. The carburetors require tuning.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive will not engage.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors and a build date of December 1965.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its transferable New York registration document.
