This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was refurbished under previous ownership and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with switch-activated overdrive. Refinished in red following reported rust remediation, the car is equipped with a black soft top and boot cover, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, driving lights, a front badge bar, black leather upholstery, wood veneer interior trim, a heater, and a push-button radio. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in July 2023, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. This BJ8 is now offered with the manufacturer’s literature, tools, a tonneau cover, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The car was refurbished in the late-1990s, with work reportedly including rust remediation before the exterior was repainted red. Exterior details include a black soft top and matching boot cover, chrome bumpers and overriders, dual fender-mounted Talbot Berlin-style side mirrors, bright trim, driving lights, and a front badge bar. The selling dealer reports the lower-left of the trunk lid is blemished and the bottom-right corner of the windshield is delaminated.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 165-series Michelin XZX tires. A full-size spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The 2+2 cockpit features front bucket seats and rear seat pads that were reupholstered in black leather during the aforementioned refurbishment. Wood veneer trim accents the dashboard, and additional appointments include a heater, a locking glove compartment, front lap belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a push-button radio. An imperfection can be seen in the dashboard.
The three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplemental gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors with “pancake” air cleaners and was factory rated at 148 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with switch-activated overdrive. The car is equipped with a stainless-steel dual exhaust system.
A tonneau cover, the manufacturer’s literature, and tools are included in the sale.
