This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller in 1996 and stored until 2013, when a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment was performed. The exterior was refinished in two-tone green and cream with a tan soft top, the interior was reupholstered with tan leather and green carpets, the wiring was replaced, and the 2.9-liter inline-six and the four-speed manual transmission were overhauled. Features include chrome bumpers, 15″ wire spoke wheels, a tan top boot, burl wood on the dashboard, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. An oil change is said to have been performed in the past year. This BJ8 is now offered with tools, partial service records, a workshop manual, memorabilia, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The car was reportedly stored for more than 20 years before refurbishment began in 2013, which included repainting the car from its original British Racing Green to the current two-tone green with cream side accents. Equipment includes a tan soft top with a plastic rear window, chrome bumpers with overriders, a hood scoop, front fender strakes, bright trunk-lid hinges, and polished dual ANSA exhaust outlets. Paint blemishes are noted by the trunk hinge and the rear edge of the left door, which are detailed in the gallery below.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire-spoke wheels with knock-off hubs wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, and a matching spare wire wheel and tire are stored in the trunk. Braking power is supplied by front discs and rear drums.
The seller states that the factory black interior was refurbished with tan upholstery and contrasting green piping and carpets, and the wiring harness is said to have been replaced. Amenities include a matching soft top boot, a heater, a locking glove box, burl wood trim on the dashboard, a wooden shift knob, and polished door pulls.
The three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel with a wooden rim frames chrome-ringed Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, with true mileage unknown. The seller states the tachometer needs to be calibrated, and that a turn signal is inoperative.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors, and the seller states that the engine was rebuilt during the car’s 2015 refurbishment. Recent service is said to include an oil change.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically-actuated overdrive, and the seller states that the transmission was also refurbished in 2013.
