This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller’s father in 1974 and underwent refurbishment work in the early 2000s that consisted of a repaint in two-tone red and white, reupholstering the red leather interior, and rebuilding the 2.9-liter inline-six. The car was inherited by the seller in November 2023, and shifting is via a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Ivory White (WT3) with red lower sections. The car was repainted in the early 2000s according to the seller, and the black convertible top was replaced at this time. Additional exterior details include a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels and 195/65 Michelin Defender tires were mounted in February 2024, at which time the brake booster was rebuilt. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket front and rear seats reupholstered in red leather along with color-matching carpets and door panels. Interior appointments include a cabin heater, a center console, a locking glovebox, and burl wood trim.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 86k miles, approximately 25k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The engine is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment in 2002.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive. A transmission synchronizer issue is noted.
