This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was dispatched to New York in September 1966, and it is said to have been refurbished in 2018. Finished in blue over blue leather, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a black soft top, Falcon mufflers, 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, Talbot side mirrors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and lap belts. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2024 after it was reportedly traded in at a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Work performed in preparation for the sale involved repairing the shifter, adjusting the valves and resealing the valve cover, changing the oil, and replacing heater and radiator hoses as well as the clutch slave cylinder. This 3000 Mk III is now offered at no reserve with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a top boot, and a clean New Jersey title.
Finished from the factory in Healey Blue, the car was repainted around 2018 during the aforementioned refurbishment. Features include a folding black soft top, a hood scoop, a badge bar, dual Talbot Berlin side mirrors, dual tailpipes, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Cooper CS3 Touring tires measuring 185/65. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in blue leather with gold-colored piping. Interior appointments include wood trim, a center console, front lap belts, a heater, a locking glovebox, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, less than 10 of which were added by the selling dealer; true mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Work performed in preparation for the sale involved adjusting the valves, resealing the valve cover, changing the engine oil and filter, and replacing the passenger-side heater hose and also the upper and lower radiator hoses.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The dual exhaust system has resonators as well as Falcon mufflers. The shifter was repaired and the clutch slave cylinder was replaced in preparation for the sale. The seller notes corrosion on underbody components.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists options, colors, and serial numbers plus dispatch to New York on September 12, 1966.
