MotoeXotica is pleased to offer this stunning and well maintained 1967 Austin Healey Mk III BJ8 2+2. Affectionately known as "big Healeys", this Mk III is a gorgeous example of an award winning mildly restored BJ8 that is in perfect condition for road use! It is believed to have had only three prior owners, while benefiting from a high quality repaints using a two-stage base clear-coat rich red paint under one of the previous owners. These Healeys were the final swan song of the Austin Healey Company, thus these are the most powerful, advanced, and desired.
Walking around this brilliant Austin-Healey the time and effort spent on this car is clear and rewarding. The rich red paint is in excellent condition and appears to be very high quality paint; the previous owner did state that the car was repainted. All of the exterior bright work is in matching condition to the paint, very good condition. Little to no signs of aging can be found on the bright work or body. A newer black vinyl soft top was added which looks great and fits snugly and securely, while providing excellent visibility through the clear plastic rear window. Chrome wire knock-off wheels contribute to the period look and are in great condition as well!
Taking a step inside the small but well equipped Healey; the interior mirrors the condition of the exterior. Black bucket seats support both the driver and passenger and are in very good condition and show only very minor wear. While the small rear 2+2 seating provides the opportunity for this Austin-Healey to carry two more passengers; however since space is at a premium the rear seat has the ability to fold flat for more cargo room. A full width walnut-veneer dashboard warms up the interior and provided excellent contrasts to the clear and direct Smith's black and white gauges. The factory optional heater controls are in their rightful position, above the Pioneer AM/FM radio player and speakers located in both foot wells. However it should be noted that the radio in inoperable. In the multi-tier trunk a full-size spare is located, along with a knock-off hammer, roadside jack, and tool kit!
Since this Phase II Healey was to be the company's final product, it got all of Austin-Healey's latest performance parts and design. It's powered by a 2,912cc inline six cylinder engine with twin SU 2" downdraft HD8 carburetors which produced 150hp. The steel ladder frame was stiffened by added an "X brace" and braking was improved with servo-assisted disc brakes. A four-speed syncro-mesh manual transmission with overdrive provides crisp and direct gear changes. While coil springs and hydraulic mono-tube shocks make up the front suspension and leaf-springs mounted to a live axle make of the rear suspension.
