Lot #158975

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III has been repainted El Paso Beige Metallic over black vinyl and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, and front bucket seats. The car was refurbished in the early 2000s and was acquired by the current owner in 2021. This 3000 Mk III is now offered as part of Mohr Imports’ Monterey Car Week Collection on dealer consignment with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, recent service records, and a clean California title.

Finished from the factory in Colorado Red, the car was repainted El Paso Beige Metallic in 2013 and features a folding black soft top, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165R15 Goodyear Corsa GT tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The two-plus-two cabin features bucket seats trimmed in Black Ambla vinyl, and interior appointments include a center console, a locking glovebox, wood trim, and a passenger-side grab handle.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 2k miles of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Work in 2022 included installing a spin-on oil filter, a gear reduction starter, and a replacement battery as well as repairing the radiator and choke system.

The engine stamping is viewable above, and a corresponding number is listed on the BMIHT certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors, factory options, and serial numbers as well as a build date in November 1966.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
